Peiliang Jin - Artist
East
meets West
Peiliang Jin’s work transcends traditional concepts
of eastern and western art, just as traditional artistic and
cultural boundaries between east and west are blurring.
Trained in both classical Chinese and contemporary western
technique, his works cannot be defined in strict eastern and
western terms, but rather represent a new, multicultural
milieu.
The art of Peiliang Jin brings us to
another, better place; a place of tranquility, inner peace and
dignity. This young Chinese-American artist expands our view
of nature by blending curve, color and light. Using elements
of East and West, Peiliang reminds us of the beauty of the
natural world with an unparalleled vision and depth of
expression. To view a painting of Peiliang Jin is to be
reminded that purity and good still exist.
Lucie & David Lapovsky
Peiliang Jin is a third generation artist. He was trained and
educated in the classical manner of Chinese watercolor
painters.
However, given a modern curiosity
about color and style, his approach to his art has evolved
beyond the classic style. His subject matter is generally
landscapes. While certain of the traditional elements are
clearly present in his landscapes, particularly in the deft
accuracy and delicacy of single brush-stroke tree trunks, his
paintings generally have an impressionistic and evocative
structure. In one of his seasonal change series, there is a
transition from a brightly colored active summer to the slight
melancholy of a pale, foggy fall day, calm elegant winter, and
finally the gentle warmth of spring's arrival. In others,
still, the issues of the season are irrelevant, and the viewer
is invited to a meditatively calm view of an ever-expanding
horizon or a deeply hued view into mountains.
Peiliang Jin's intention is to have us engage in an internal
dialogue concerning landscape and nature that sates our senses
and gently warms us internally. In this, he succeeds.
Derryl & David Brody
“Peiliang’s paintings convey a refreshing sense of
optimism. His watercolors evoke the dawn of a new day or the
very pleasant golden haze of a world we may wish to see, but
somehow seldom find.”
John J. Metzler
A landscape painter of outdoor scenes, particularly in
watercolor, Shanghai-born artist Peiliang Jin blends a unique
synthesis of East and West through both traditional Chinese
and modern art. His technique is inspired by his classical
training and in the ancient watercolor methods of Chinese art.
Peiliang’s cosmopolitan
Shanghai-style is underscored by a consummate passion which
creates an exceptional technique which envelops our senses and
gently warms us internally. His unique background of
traditional Chinese art, modern art, and portrait art and his
extraordinary eye for blending color all combine to give us a
harmonious vision of the peace and tranquility of the world.
Fine point brushes allow him, with a
single stroke, to convey accuracy and delicacy to highlight
anchor structures such as trees and flowers within a painting,
while at the same time blending curve, color and light in the
more expansive parts of the picture. The total effect of his
technique engagingly pulls the viewer into the painting
itself.
Born in Shanghai China in 1958,
Peiliang Jin emigrated to the USA in 1988 and later became an
American citizen. Raised in an artist’s family, his father
and grandfather are both portrait painters, Peiliang first
studied traditional Chinese painting for seventeen years from
two noted masters; Jian-Lou Cao and Yo Ding in Shanghai. In
the late 1980’s he studied modern art at the Dusseldorf Art
Academy in Germany. He also received a degree from the Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York. His work has been
exhibited in many shows and appears in over 100 private
collections.
Peiliang lives in New York City with
his wife and daughter.
